MY NAME IS ART WEEKS. Yes, it's my real name. Luckily, I knew early on what I wanted to be...and do.
I started life as a kid who loved to draw and paint. At 18 I went to an art school and graduated 3 years later to become an advertising art director. Most of it was pretty fun, I made great money and got to fly to places I might not have otherwise gone. I made a ton of ads and TV commercials and in 2008 quit all that for good to spend all my time as a fine artist. I have had half a dozen solo shows, tons of group shows and have exhibited twice at MOCA in Los Angeles.

- RANDOM STUFF THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABOUT ME -
Sept. 3, 2013 My painting based on the "shocking" twerking performance by Miley Cyrus at the Video Music Awards a week earlier. The former Disney child star is definitely shedding her Hannah Montana image. SOLD on Sept. 5 to IMC Partners Talent Agent and ICM partner, Chris Smith.
August 5, 2013 A painting commission for the Suaya's, in situ.
A new stencil I made for Joe. Supposed to be a Monkey Vampire but looks a bit like a Bulldog.
July 30, 2013 MOSS STENCILS LOOK FUN TO GROW. August is almost here. The weather in Los Angeles feels more like Winter. But not complaining. Perfect weather to make some moss stencils or moss art. I wanna try this. Here is a link if anyone wants to try growing moss in shapes. I guess you can even do it on plant pots. But the key is not too much sun.

My piece titled "Godamned James Franco" painted for the Los Angeles Art Association annual auction sold tonight. Why is it when I donate to auctions they most always sell? The actor has become a somewhat L'enfant terrible for branching out from acting to becoming a force of some sort in the fine art world. I say good for him.
Funny story, when i delivered this painting to the gallery there was a longish line of pretty girls waiting in line at the Oh Wow Gallery a few doors down. I told the gallery people about it and I said because of all the pretty women lined up there must be a show with Brad Pitt or James Franco. I went to check it out and yep, James franco. Only in L.A.

I painted both of these on the same day. I did not like the B&W photo I took of some dead flowers (on right) so I stole this pic off the internet as well as the photo above.
July 26, 2013 "Levitated Mass" at LACMA. The controversial $10 million piece. Everyone else does this silly pose and I like to get silly, too. Oh yeah, these are my 2013 orange shorts. I've been seen in these in pretty much every photo posted this year, whether by choice or on accident.
I ASKED the infamous Hollywood blvd. Superman Christopher Dennis to pose like he was holding up a big boulder.
I turned it into a painting for an art show but did not sell so if you want to buy it, hit me up. Christopher came to the
show in uniform and hung out at our house afterwards. I have to report that he did not fly home but took a cab.

I HAVE AN OBSESSION with stripes. Mostly black and white but I like colored stripes, too. I like the visual contrast and the hard edges work well when combined with other shapes. It is a good way to add order when you want to get sloppy with paint, which I wish I did more of. Controlled slop, that is.
The painting below I made with spray paint on gessoed wood and the yellow graphic is painted on canvas and glued to the cradled wood panel. 36" x 24"

July 25, 2013 Clearly not a pair of panties.

July 26, 2013 Here are some random images I snapped around Los Angeles in late July, 20013.

July 21, 2013 This is my last drink (for now.) Let's see how long that lasts :-)
The red wine with strawberry was inspired by a couple of wine tasting room visits earlier that day in Camarillo, CA.

A PLACE I LIKE
CATALINA ISLAND is 26 or so miles off the coast of Los Angeles. I have been coming here since 1983 and will go there for 4 days in August for my Bday. We always stay at an old Western novel writer's former house that has been converted into a B&B. I like to stay away from the crowds because crowds are not fun for me. It is a great place to relax high above the harbor. The serenity allows me to unload my mind to allow room for more stuff to upload. Plus, you can roam around at night on the road with no one around except for the small, indigenous foxes only known to Catalina Island. They tend to follow you around at night.
The pic below is the view from the mountain side rooms of the B&B.

The large building in the harbor below is called the Avalon Casino though in the over 100 years that it has been on the island, there has never been any actual gambling. A bit of false advertising?
MULTI-TOED CATS , also known as poly-dactyls are available for adoption on the island. If we didn't already have 2 cats I'd take one or two of these. When the City of Avalon spays/neuters the island's feral cats they clip the ear so they can identify more easily.
The deer come down in the morning and evening for a bite of apple if you were thoughtful enough to save a few from the B&B's morning breakfast. The deer are also know to walk off the hillside onto the flat part of the B&B roof at night. The clippity clopping on the roof freaked me out the first time I heard it. I imagine that would take on a whole new meaning at Christmas time. Btw-these 2 cat/deer pics were taken 2 years apart. The little gray one on the left is the most friendly and most mischievous. Late one night we left our chinese food containers briefly unattended on a picnic table near the pool and looked over and there was a cat head stuck in each container. And joe had asked for extra spicy food!

Btw, I did not take the fox pup photo. |
The hour and a half Ferry ride from San Pedro is pretty fun when dolphins and seals are spotted, and the rare whale if you are lucky. The battleship below is the USS Iowa, newly berthed in San Pedro. I was lucky enough to tour in July.
FRIENDS OF LAUREL CANYON
MEENY, MINEY AND MOE are three squirrels who were born in a tall cypress tree in our yard last Spring. They seemed to like the raw peanuts I left out and one day I thought I would see if they would take one from my hand. As I held out the peanut the squirrel held onto my finger with both paws and the sharp claws startled me. I pulled forward and so did the squirrel and it ended up falling onto the concrete 5 or 6 feet below but not before splaying out its body to fly but the distance was too short for that effect to work. It didn't seem too hurt and it grabbed the peanut before running off. Now when I come outside they start jumping from branch to branch like monkeys to see who can get to me first.
Also, there is a fat, lazy lizard that follows me around the yard. He isn't even scared of a little water spray from the hose if I accidentally get a little too close. I feed the birds and hummingbirds so I guess it senses I am a friend. Even the local Coyotes are treated with our turkey carcass at Thanksgiving and Christmas at the nearby wildlife hike area.
